Helmed by chef/owners who have previously been awarded Bon Appétit’s “Best New Restaurant,” Copper Common offers a warm, energetic and hip vibe like its adjacent sister restaurant, The Copper Onion. Local Pick: Bar X & Beer Bar

Bar X has been around for over 80 years. It’s a modern speakeasy still using the same recipes from a bygone era. Neighboring Beer Bar is a German-inspired watering hole, offering more than 140 beers with 30 on tap and artisan bratwurst. Both are co-owned by Emmy award-winning Modern Family actor and SLC local, Ty Burrell.

Local Pick: Whiskey Street

Whiskey Street pays homage to Salt Lake’s past. Before changing to Main Street in 1906, this central artery was named “Whiskey Street” by Brigham Young himself. It’s a gastropub made for boardroom execs, hipsters, and out-of-towners alike. Local’s tip: the short rib grilled cheese and peanut butter bourbon s'more are moan-inducing.

Local Pick: The Garage

What once was an old repair shop has been transformed into one of Salt Lake’s coolest roadhouse taverns. A full bar pairs with comfort food — the Fried Mormon Funeral Potatoes™ is the stuff of legends — live music, and an enormous patio in an unexpectedly cool industrial setting on the northern edge of the city.
