History & Heritage
The Heber Valley’s alpine-like landscape attracted the attention of Swiss immigrants, who began arriving in Utah following completion of the Latter-day Saints’ first European temple in Bern, Switzerland, in 1855. Several Swiss families settled and eventually founded the valley town of Midway, building a life based on what they knew: dairy farming and cheese production.

Homestead Crater
Homestead Crater is a geothermal spring hidden within a 55-foot tall, beehive-shaped limestone rock located on the Homestead property. Once inside, you can go swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, enjoy a therapeutic soak, or even take a paddleboard yoga class. Utah’s second largest festival celebrates Midway’s Swiss heritage over Labor Day weekend.

Soldier Hollow Nordic Center, Ice Castles and Tubing
Solider Hollow hosted the biathlon, Nordic combined and cross-country events during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Today, the venue continues to operate 20 miles of cross-country and snowshoe trails for Olympic hopefuls and the general public, as well as snow tubing, a day lodge for rentals and sensational ice castles. Come summertime, the venue houses miles of mountain bike and hiking trails, two 18-hole golf courses, e-bike rentals, summer biathlon and rollerskiing.
